Recently I produced a body of sculptural paintings and installed them in an art space. The show is called “CanKitsch” which is a reference to 19th century German works that have popular appeal and understandably I have manipulated the concept towards Canadian identity or more specifically “Northern Ontario Identity”. As a finished exhibition “CanKitsch” showcases soJin Chun, Sharon Hunter, Laurent Vaillancourt and Clayton Windatt. As these are the artists that were installed at GEOLAB a residency creation and presentation venue in Carling Ontario near Parry Sound.
I would like to thank the Canada Council for the Arts through their “Travel Grants for Aboriginal Collaborative Projects” which allowed me to travel and collaborate with fellow artist Sharon Hunter. I would like to thank the Art Gallery of Sudbury who awarded me an Ontario Arts Council’s “Exhibition Assistance” grant to help cover the costs to showcase “CanKitsch”.
